Getting To and Around the Island

Getting to Waiheke Island is a breeze, with a quick 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. The journey will take you through the Hauraki Gulf, sailing past all the other islands in the harbour and finally landing on the pristine shores of Waiheke. There are two main ferry services for travel to the island, Fullers Ferry and SeaLink. Once you’re on the island having a car is the easiest way to get around and see all the island has to offer. If you can’t bring a car here don't worry there are other great ways to get around: there are a number of taxi companies and a few rental car and scooter options available. Fullers Ferry
 

Fullers Ferries operate a passenger ferry that departs from downtown Auckland and disembarks at the Matiatia Ferry building on Waiheke Island. You can also catch the ferry from Devonport Wharf. Buy your ticket online and access the discounted online rate. With your pre-purchased e-ticket you'll be able to skip the on-wharf ticket queue.

SeaLink Ferry
 

Sealink operates a car and passenger ferry that departs from Half Moon Bay or Wynyard Wharf in downtown Auckland and disembarks at Kennedy Point. Bookings to travel with your car are essential.

Helicopter


Why not arrive in style to Waiheke Island. Helicopter flights can be booked from Auckland City or the Airport, taking you directly to one of the local restaurants to enjoy a vineyard lunch before checking into your holiday home.

Bus
 

Fullers operate a regular bus service between Matiatia Ferry Terminal and Oneroa, Blackpool, Surfdale, Ostend & Onetangi to meet each Fullers ferry sailing.  As of 2020 Waiheke is now proud to have a fleet of electric buses on the Island.
